Concepts

The animating question: what does it mean to be a good singer? SingDeep's premise is that good singing has two layers — and most software can only see one of them.

The first layerCorrectness is measurable

Can the singer choose and execute pitch, rhythm, tone, and phrase shape reliably? Arrival at stable note centers. Minimal unintentional drift. Onsets where they belong. Sustained notes that hold. This layer is honest engineering: it can be tracked, aligned, and diffed against a reference.

The second layerExpression is deliberate deviation

Great singers bend the nominal target on purpose — scoops, portamento, blue notes, delayed consonants, back-phrasing, vibrato delay. A tool that punishes every deviation from the grid punishes exactly the gestures that make singing human. So SingDeep asks different questions of a deviation:

The hard problemStyle versus error

Distinguishing a controlled interpretive choice from an execution mistake is treated as calibrated hypothesis testing, not a rule table pretending to be taste. Execution quality and interpretive validity are separate axes. Evidence includes repeatability, settlement, stability, harmonic and phrase context, and the reference itself. And ambiguous is a first-class result — sometimes the honest answer is that the evidence doesn't decide.

The coaching loopOne concrete next take

A report is observation, interpretation with uncertainty, a choice, and one exercise. Then you sing again, and the next take tests whether the intervention worked. Improvement across repeat takes is the metric that matters — not the fluency of the prose.

The small printWhat it won't do

SingDeep will not give you a single number to chase. It will not call every deviation a fault. It will not diagnose your vocal health. And it will not pretend certainty it doesn't have. The voice is the oldest instrument; it deserves better than a pitch bar.
